About Me
Hello! I am currently working as an assistant editor for Oxford University Press, a major academic publishing house affiliated with Oxford University.
My post-law shift to an academic publishing career was largely influenced by my commitment to education, my belief in the strengthening and development ideas through the crucible of public exchange, and my love of books and reading. University presses curate and legitimize the constant stream of new ideas and discoveries every day. Being a part of that is an exciting honor, and I look forward to exploring the opportunities that technology can now offer education and publishing. I also love to discuss publishing, technology, and all kinds of science and social science.
My post-law shift to an academic publishing career was largely influenced by my previous experiences in publishing, my commitment to creating and exchanging ideas, and my interest in intellectual property. I am looking forward to helping shepherd the marketplace of ideas and learning how to work with legal scholars and authors to create works of scholarly excellence.
I finished my final semester of law school in December 2010 and earned my juris doctorate from Boston University School of Law, with a concentration in Intellectual Property. In addition to other extracurriculars (APALSA, Art Law Club), I also worked as an editor in the Journal of Science and Technology Law.
I graduated cum laude with a dual concentration in Human Evolutionary Biology and Archaeology from Harvard University. My senior honors thesis analyzed changes in diet and health during the intensification of agriculture in China, and was awarded the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize. Aside from forensic anthropology, my research included evolutionary biomechanics, material archaeology, social anthropology (linguistics), and museum studies. I also pursued a long-standing interest in media and design. I was a classical radio announcer for 95.3FM WHRB, an editor and webmaster for the award-winning Tuesday Magazine, and a fly-by-night layout designer and political cartoonist for Swift Magazine.
Last summer, I trooped around the ancient city of Qufu, birthplace of Confucius, with an archaeological survey team from UCLA. Last year, I worked on a 3-person production team for Sacred Spaces, by Samina Quareshi, for the Peabody Museum Press. The year before that, I worked in-house for the Deputy General Counsel of Viacom, Inc., which owns Paramount Pictures, MTV, and Nickelodeon, among others. I can’t wait for the next challenging project!
This blog was born out of a leave of absence from law school in 2009 as I tried to figure out my future.
